It is critical to let learners know what is expected of them, help them stay on task, and gain support when they need it.
LEARNING AGREEMENTS inform learners and instructors how they will proceed before the beginning of a course. This increases motivation and perseverence because the learner is asked to commit to the process right from the beginning. This can be implemented by using a quiz function.
PREWORK VERIFICATION give learners the opportunity to verify that they have completed the pre-requirements of a learning event. This can be done via a web form linked to a database. This approach also allows for collection of important additional information for instructors.
STUDY SCHEDULE reduce the learner risk to fall behind due to low external motivation to stay on track. Weekly activities may be posted on the course website and e-mails can be sent at the end of each week to reinforce the items in the study schedule.
MOVEMENT INSTUCTIONS encourage learners to leave their chairs periodically and exercise for a few minutes to avoid lethargy, drowsiness, and decreased attention.
